What are CO2 extracts?

CO2 extracted oils are high quality oils extracted using carbon dioxide in liquid form, as the solvent for lipophilic plant ingredients. There are not any waste streams and emissions involved in this eco-friendly technology. When carbon dioxide is converted to liquid by using low temperatures and high pressure, it becomes a safe and effective solvent that allows all the desirable active constituents of the botanical to be collected without the risk of heat, light and air (oxygen) degradation. Once the extraction is complete, the carbon dioxide is allowed to return to its natural gaseous state, leaving behind only the extracted essence of the plant.

CO2 extracts contain most of the plant’s original components, including waxes, fatty oils, and colour pigments, hence the hue, scent and texture of a CO2 extract is a lot more intense and is the closest to the original plant itself.

CO2 extracted oils are food and medical grade, often used in the food industry and in dietary supplement products.

Rosa canina

Rosehip seed is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A and omega 3. The rich vitamin A content promotes collagen formation and helps to delay age-related breakdown of the skin and underlying tissues. It has natural antioxidant properties and is slightly astringent.

All in all, it has been shown to help improve UV damage, uneven pigmentation, elasticity of the skin, regenerate skin cells, slow down premature aging, reduce the formation of wrinkles, and reduce scarring. rosehip seed extract has been found in clinical trials to be active in cell regeneration and a treatment for scar tissues and blemishes.

Did you know?

1 kg of the CO2 extract being equivalent to roughly 13 - 15 kg of rosehip seeds. Organic rosehip seed CO2 extract has the strongest rich reddish orange colour, while conventional cold-pressed oils are usually pale yellow. The depth of colour in the oil indicates the presence of carotenoids and natural vitamins.

Rosehips have long been traditionally used as an herbal tea, vitamin supplement, and health food product. They are well known because they have the highest vitamin C content among horticultural crops, fruits, and vegetables, thus are utilized to prepare jam, marmalade, fruit juice, beverages, and drinks.

Rosehips have been used in European Herbalism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Indian Ayurvedic Medicine, Native North American Medicine and some North African tribes.  In Europe, the rosehip has traditionally been used as a food source and for treating cold and flu. Native Americans used rosehips in soups and teas and for treating muscle cramps while Indian Ayurvedic prescribes rosehip as a tonic for cooling the body constitution, while Chinese Medicine prescribed rosehips for urinary and gastrointestinal tracts.
