Chrysanthemums are native to China, where they have been grown for over 3,000 years. They were already grown agriculturally as early as 1500–1400 BC, and they were regarded as valuable plants with unique qualities. Only noblemen were permitted to grow them in their gardens.
In Chinese culture, the chrysanthemum ( 菊花 Jú huā) is a distinctive symbol. Chrysanthemum, bamboo, orchid, and plum blossom are known as the “Four Noble Plants in Chinese Culture.” Chrysanthemum (aka “Golden Flower”) is associated with autumn and the ninth lunar month, which is a perfect time during this period (Aug-Sept) to distill + incorporate Chrysanthemum hydrosol into our daily lives.
During the cool autumn months when most flowers wither, Chrysanthemums bloom in vibrant colours. In the face of cold and a harsh environment, it grows magnificently without having to compete with other flowers; this distinguishing feature of the Chrysanthemum makes it a symbol of strong vitality and persistence in the eyes of ancient Chinese scholars. Many ancient philosophers and scholars also wrote about how Chrysanthemums promote longevity, health, and happiness. Symbolism wise, it represents nobility in China.
This beautiful hydrosol is steam distilled at my home studio, using freshly dried mature Chrysanthemum flowers from Hangzhou. This is the First Distillate, meaning it possesses the most potent, therapeutic and medicinal qualities of Chrysanthemum at its purest and truest form. You will be able to experience the essence of Chrysanthemum at its highest strength and deepest core – both with her aroma and her healing benefits.
PLEASE READ: If you appreciate and want to experience First Distillate pure hydrosol, then choose the original Chrysanthemum hydrosol. Her scent is STRONG. If you prefer something lighter on your nose, I created a beautiful blend of Turkish rose hydrosol and Chrysanthemum hydrosol that’s very compatible together. This smells sweeter altogether!
P/S Feel free to blend both hydrosols yourself too!
How to use: Use it as a face toner or anytime when you need it, as a natural scented perfume mist. You can even add a tablespoon into a cup of water and enjoy the taste + anti-inflammatory benefits of Chrysanthemum. You may also diffuse it in your diffuser (with no added water) to enjoy the scent of Chrysanthemum heaven in your living space :)
Aromatherapy properties: Brings down powerful yin/feminine energy for balancing, feelings of abundance and happiness, promotes good healthy skin, energy giving in a gentle manner. It is also an organic insect repellent because it possesses a unique compound called pyrethrin.
Skin and health benefits: Very hydrating, skin feels supple and “full” after using. Anti-aging, promotes skin regeneration and wound healing. Photoprotective against UV damage. Soothing for tired, overworked and tensed eye muscles. Anti-inflammatory, hydrating and cooling. Useful to help expel heat from skin and beneficial for inflamed skin issues - beneficial for allergy hives, eczema and rashes. Spray into 3 x a day onto back of throat for inflamed sore throat symptoms.
Scent:
Chrysanthemum (matured flowers) - Strong and aromatic, full-bodied, heady floral, bittersweet-herbaceous. Smells like a strong infusion of good quality Chrysanthemum tea. Sweet scent lingers after misting. For those who find it too strong, you can opt for a more mellowed-down option of Chrysanthemum x rose hydrosol blend.
