Safety considerations: Contraindicated for women who are pregnant or breast feeding due to its thymoquinone content. It should also be used with caution if taking diabetic medication. This is a ‘warming’ oil, thus application to sensitive skin may cause temporary redness. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin.

A tincture prepared from the seeds is useful in indigestion, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, dropsy, amenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea and in the treatment of worms and skin eruptions. Roasted black seeds are given internally to stop the vomiting.
Herbal Folk Tradition
Black cumin has been a staple of the Mediterranean and Arabic cultures since antiquity. The seeds have been used for food, oil, medicine for thousands of years.
Seeds have been in Tutankhamen’s tomb, signifying its importance in Egyptian culture as only items that will assist the Pharoah in the afterlife will be placed in the tomb. The earliest written account of the black seed is in the Old Testament book of Isaiah, where the prophet contrasts the importance of Black cumin seed with that of wheat. Mohamed is said to have declared the Black cumin seed remedy for “every disease except death”.
